Yasuaki Shimizu - Kakashi (LP)
"In Search Of A Feel-Good Feel, I arrange the sounds." Producer, composer, saxophonist Yasuaki Shimizu had this to say about the creation of his sought-after 1982 album, Kakashi. Easily recognizable by its eye-catching cover, yet scarce even in its own country, Kakashi has become a rare commodity - a grail of the highest order for fans of left field Japanese sounds. The album feels free and laid back, with experimentation flowing openly, all while retaining a refined, yet exotic sound. From the playful skronk of the opening track "Suiren," that cuts straight into the beautifully floating dub of the title track "Kakashi," and the avant Art Of Noise vibes of "Semi Tori No Hi," Kakashi is a rewarding listen for those with open ears. This officially licensed 2017 reissue comes courtesy of Palto Flats, and includes a printed insert with in-depth liner notes. Recommended.
