The man, the myth, the legend that is Blockhead (The Real Blockhead) is coming to the Magic Bag on Sunday, October 14 with Yppah and arms and sleepers as part of his North America - Fall 2018 Tour. The doors open at 8pm and tickets are $12 in advance. Tickets go on sale Friday, July 6

Blockhead, has been making and releasing utterly distinctive, funky and emotive music for the last two decades. Blockhead grew up in downtown New York City. As the son of an artist, surrounded by visual culture, he early on found that his passion was for music, for the sonic. A fan of a whole range of sounds, especially hip-hop, Blockhead steadily built a tremendous collection of tapes and later CDs from innumerable artists, a quiet accumulation of knowledge and know-how. After a brief stint as a rapper, he realized his calling was behind the boards and not on the mic – and from there he began to produce beats. Since making that decision, he's kept pretty busy: carving a niche as a sought-after underground beatmaker that people call when they want something special. Blockhead produced nine tracks on Aesop Rock's critically acclaimed album "Labor Days." Additionally he produced half the tracks on Aesop's follow up EP, "Daylight." He has also worked with other indie giants Atmosphere, Murs, Mike Ladd and Illogic. In between, he found time to complete a break beat album entitled "Blockhead's Broke Beats," with ten hard-hitting instrumental tracks, which was released on Mush Records, the US home of cLOUDDEAD.
Yppah has forged a career marked by ethereality and dynamism. Brought up on equal parts My Bloody Valentine and hip-hop, he has utilized a number of instruments and techniques in forging his place in the uplifting (yet firmly grounded) world his music inhabits. Previous records (2006's You Are Beautiful At All Times, 2009's They Know What Ghost Know, 2012's Eighty One) have harnessed his cultural heritage and relentless curiosity to brilliant effect, landing placements in films (21), video games (Alone In The Dark) and television series (House, CSI) as well as taking him on tour around the globe.
Mirza Ramic and Max Lewis have compiled an impressive discography of 26 releases in their 11 year history as ARMS AND SLEEPERS. They have collaborated with dozens of prominent artists (Tom Brosseau of Fat Cat Records, Serengeti of Anticon, Philip Jamieson of Caspian, and Victor Ferreira of Sun Glitters, among others) and worked on numerous remixes (Caspian, Helios, Ef, From Indian Lakes, and many others). Their music has also been widely used in various TV, radio, and online media programming, including VICE and NPR. Their music on recent releases has been transcending the narrow confines of that scene, oscillating more between "chilled hip-hop beats, glitching electronics and ambient progressions" (The Huffington Post) than the typical wailing delay guitars and drum crescendos. They have always been an act difficult to categorize.

Beer, music, food, fun, YOU. The usual.
Join us for the 41st Dally in the Alley! This year, we've added an expanded Kid's Fair, an additional Beer Garden, an extra merchandise booth, more art for your viewing pleasure, upgraded sound at the stage and, of course, the hottest music acts in the city!
Once again this year, the Dally in the Alley is happy to work with our neighbors Motor City Brew Works to supply the bread and butter of the Dally: the beer. Our beer garden was such a wonderful success last year that we decided to double down and have a second beer garden this year. That gives all you Dalliers a beer garden on Hancock, the new beer garden on Forest between 2nd and Cass, beer tents at Forest and 2nd and Forest and 3rd, and finally the tried and true Alley beer garages.
We have a great variety of options for Dalliers this year. We're offering 4 different beers; Ghettoblaster (an amber ale), Lager (lighter option), Kitty Hop (the 40th anniversary New England style IPA), and a Summer-y ale with hints of citrus. There's also a Cider (for Cider fans and the glutton free), and an Elixir (similar to a wine cooler). In addition to these Motor City staples we'll offer multiple varieties of white and red wine, as well as Faygo pop and bottled water for non-alcohol options. Its the beer and wine sales that allow us to put on Dally every year, and one of the reasons that we are able to stay one of the few independent and un-sponsored festivals in the Detroit! So please, support Dally by stopping by and buying a drink!

Peace To Mateo album release for "Some Strange Reason"

Peace to Mateo "Some Strange Reason" Album Release

About "Some Strange Reason"
For Peace To Mateo (a/k/a Matt Black), the album Some Strange Reason has been a labor of love. Written and produced over the past two years, the album contains a tight 8-song track list, each an evolved composition containing only fragments and samples of their original demos.
After years of sample-based production, Black delivers his first album of wholly original compositions. Although elements were tracked at various studios around Detroit, the bulk of the album was written and composed at the Young Heavy Souls studio (lovingly referred to as YHS HQ) located in Detroit’s Grand River Creative Corridor.
Sonically, Some Strange Reason is cinematic and surreal, with heavy inspiration from trip-hop, dub, indie, and glitch hop. There was also a large emphasis on experimentation during the creation of the album, with some songs going through nearly 20+ iterations before becoming what is heard on the album.
